Class Descriptions
Tots
Ages 3-5 years old! These are our youngest skaters that are divided into classes based on their ice experience from first time skaters all the way through advanced skaters. New skaters that need a little extra help with balance and confidence will start with a skate aid walker the first couple of weeks. Our most advanced tots are mastering edge work, turns and crossovers. Class size is max 6 students with 1 coach and classes are 40 minutes followed by a 10-minute supervised free skate.
Hockey Power Skating
Ages 5–13 Looking to improve speed, edges, turns, crossovers, and agility for Hockey, this is the class for you. We will divide up based on age and ability. This class is for kids looking to prep for next season’s hockey, prep for try-outs for Town, AAA, or Private teams, and keep up with personal hockey skating skills growth. No equipment required, but is suggested. This is a 40-minute power skating class followed by 10-minute free skate.
Specialty Class: Ice Dance
with Coach Chris Kinser Join us on the Ice for our NEW Ice Dancing Class this season. You will learn specific step patterns and maneuvers, like cross rolls, progressives, chasses, and swing rolls, which are foundational to ice dance. Along with mastering test patterns like the Dutch Waltz and Canasta Tango. Testing for these patterns will be available and optional. Testing fees are not included in the class cost. Prerequisite skating ability is high beginner, freestyle 1, or preliminary skating skills test. This is a 50 minute class.
Adult Small Group Class
Ages 18+. This class is a small group adult class for first time skaters, beginner skaters through our most advanced skaters. All our Adult Small Group lessons are on designated adult ice hours through our school. Lessons are 30 minutes long with a 30-minute practice session. This is a Small Group Class with a max of 4 students to 1 coach.
Youth
Ages 6-12! Classes will be divided into skating experience and ability on the ice. Youth skaters can be from first time skaters on the ice through advanced basic skills figure skaters and hockey players that are working on mastering their skills. Class size is mx 8 students with 1 coach and classes are 40 minutes followed by a 10-minute supervised free skate.
Specialty Class: Edge Works
with Coach Patty Brannen Join us on Monday evenings at 6:00 PM for Coach Patt’s Edge Works Specialty Class. Skaters will focus on the art of edge quality, how to create speed, agility and flow on the ice using pattern techniques and methods from World Figure Sport. This is a 25 minute class with a 25 minute practice freestyle.
Figure Skating Pods
Ages 4-17 Have you mastered all the Pre Alpha – Delta skating skills and are ready for some Jumps and Spins? These pods are for you. We will work in small groups of max 4 students to one coach on mastering your freestyle levels. You will have the opportunity to test, compete, or just create a program for fun. The sky is the limit. If you are unsure if your skater is ready for this class, no problem… sign up for a youth class and we will progress them forward as soon as they are ready! This is a 40-minute class followed by a 10- minute freeskate.
Specialty Class Discount
Students enrolled in two or more specialty classes and group lessons in the same session will receive a $25.00 discount off their regular group lesson each session. Discount will be issued after enrolled into the classes.
*Freestyle on Monday night is excluded from any discounts.
Teen
Ages 13-17 Let’s Master working on the basics of skating. We will help guide you through skating while building confidence on the ice. Content will vary based on ability of the skaters. This is a Small Group Class with a max of 4 students to 1 coach and classes are 40 minutes followed by a 10-minute supervised free skate.
Freestyle
Skaters are welcome to practice or take private lessons on Mondays at 6:00. The listed cost covers ice time only. Private lessons must be arranged directly with coaches and paid to them. You may either pay weekly or purchase a bulk session pass, which provides a $2 discount per week. Private lessons are available in 25-minute or 50-minute sessions. To schedule, please email us at bcskatingschool@gmail.com. For planning purposes, coaches’ rates range from $68 to $98 per 50-minute lesson. Each coach sets their own rates, and payment is made directly to them.

Rental skates are available at Rink Skate Shop, cost not included in our fees.
All students will be divided into classes based on age and ability!
All students under 18 are required to wear helmets, gloves, and single blade skates. (No double runners or blade helpers!)
No Hockey equipment is permitted to be worn during these lessons. If you are looking for a hockey skating skills class, visit us in the North End!
